Sahara Ultramarathon de Sables
Hardest Marathon on Earth
In April 1999, a 54 year-old Miles completed the toughest foot-race in the World - the Marathon des Sables, a 150 mile Ultra-Marathon race through the 120 degree heat of the Sahara Desert.
This was the first of many adventures Miles undertook with his good friend and sighted guide Jon Cook.

Miles kept an audio diary during the race

Much of the six day race was a gruelling slog

Miles began the race with badly blistered feet, having mistaken a bottle of acetone for white spirit - silly man!
The race really took its toll on Miles' feet - but he made it!
